Gatún Lake is a man-made lake created in 1913 by damming the Chagres River and represents a major part of the Panama Canal. The lake forms a freshwater bridge between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Consequently, the lake has an abundance of natural underwater habitats for various species of freshwater gamefish and is great for peacock bass fishing trips and freshwater sport fishing charters in general.
